Which Grease Character Are You?

My brilliant CP Stephanie Kuehnert and I were talking about Grease and which characters we wanted to be. Steph identified with Rizzo, the tough-talkin' broad with a golden heart. When I was five, I wanted to be Sandy, post-makeover. Never mind the fact my parents would never let me wear a black lycra cat suit then (that I did much later in life--and only once).

Who did you want to be? Frenchy, the dithering lost soul? Kenickie, who knew only two things: girls and cars? Danny, who could dance, sing, and pollute waterways simply by washing his oil-slicked hair? Sandy, before she turned from wholesome hick into a chain-smoking vamp?

(Okay, I'll admit it--I wanted to be good Sandy just as much as I wanted to be bad Sandy. And if you're ever in a karaoke bar with me, you'd better pray Hopelessly Devoted to You isn't on the playlist.)

The dance-off is my fave scene in the whole movie...

...and I love this scene too.

When bad perms happen to good people.

When I was a kid - I loved Grease. I never wanted to be the good Sandy. And I remember my mum bought a pair of the bad Sandy shoes - only they were dark blue not red. I loved those shoes - used to get them out of her closet and wear them around the house.

Funny thing is - I don't remember my Mum ever wearing them.

Oooh! I had the shoes too! But, er, they were flat-soled and the uppers weren't as thick as Sandy's...or red. Hmm. But I thought I was bad Sandy whenever I put them on and that's all that matters!

Hey, this is where the cool kids hang out! Actually I don't think I wanted to be ANYBODY in Grease. I wanted to be Maria in the Sound of Music. Yes, it's tragic! But how do you solve a problem like Maria?

Indeed, 'Maria', this is a problem. Congratulations on being number 4 on the bestseller list at Hervey Bay!

Thanks for stopping by, Sara! Hope you haven't been affected by the NZ earthquake.

I wanted to be Rizzo, I thought she was the coolest. And I was so peeved that the year after I left my theatre group, they decided to stage Grease. Not that I would've stood a chance in getting one of the main roles. My singing wasn't good enough.

and I don't agree with your bad perms comment. I thought those loose curls looked really good on Livvy. Not like some of the poodle perms I had, or save me, the spiral perm with the long hair. So glad that the perm craze is over!

NZ earthquake was in the South Island and I'm in the North so it didn't get to us.

Glad to hear you're safe, Sara.

Diane, thanks for popping in. As Rizzo would say, it's such a drag that you just missed out on starring in Grease.

We're doing "grease" in school and I play Sandy. I sorta wanted Rizzo just because I like her songs more but I don't think I would make a good Rizzo in character.

Hi, Ali! Thanks for stopping by. Sorry it's taken so long to reply. I've been away. I'm impressed by your lead role - break a leg! I agree with you about Rizzo's songs. There Are Worse Things I Could Do is just the best song to sing into your hairbrush/microphone.

We're having a school talent show for my school, and I'm on student council. Its tradition that student council runs the show and chooses a theme from which we will have to perfrom a skit accordingly throughout the show. After some rough debating, we chose the theme Grease. Its been a while since I've seen the movie but I've looked up some songs and came up with a rough draft of our cherography. Theres problems. One, student council is made up of 9 members. There is a very large quantity of girls in my school which resulted in 6 girls and 3 boys in student council. The main charcters (Danny, Sandy, Rizzo, Frenchy, Marty). We have 2 girls with undecided parts and 2 boys with undecided parts. Can you please tell me the Grease couples? It'll help us with the boys' parts. We're thinking of having one girl (for whom we thought did not deserve a spot on student council) be Jan, and the other be Principle McGee.

Hey, Anonymous. Your talent show sounds like fun. It's been a while since I last saw Grease. I'm sure about these hook-ups: Danny and Sandy, Rizzo and Kenickie. I highly recommend grabbing a DVD to study--I can think of worse ways to spend a few hours!
